Cigarette Smoking

Your heart and cigarette smoking

Cigarette smoking is one of the worst things you can do for your health. As a smoker, you increase your risk of lung cancer by 20 times, double your risk of stoke and you are 4 times more likely to die from coronary heart disease than non-smokers.4-6

The good news is that when you stop smoking, your body can start to repair itself. The risk of heart disease is halved after a year of not smoking4. Fifteen years after stopping smoking your risk of heart disease is the same as a non-smoker4.

To overcome your smoking addiction:

  • Speak to your doctor or pharmacist about solutions that can help.
  • Consider how social support can help you quit.
