Q: What causes a heart attack?

A: A heart attack occurs when your heart is deprived of oxygenated blood for too long. Part of the heart muscle becomes damaged and may begin to die if it is left too long. This can be fatal - but the good news is that more and more people are surviving heart attacks to lead long and productive lives.

Q: If one of my parents has had a heart attack, am I at greater risk?

A: Yes. Heart disease is an inherited disease. So if someone in your family has had a heart attack or a stroke, you need to take particular caution.

Q: Are heart palpitations something to worry about?
